Grilled Tuna and Swiss

Post by Martine on Sat Jan 09, 2010 10:58 pm

This is so good we had the cook in our daily Mexico hang out make them for us and he liked them so much he put it on the menu...with his own Mexican twist of course....He added Avocado, what else?

You will need:

2 slices of your favourite bread
1 can tuna in water, well drained
celery-diced small
onion-diced small..... yellow, white, red, green it's all good take your pick....
Mayo to your taste....everyone has their own preference on how much and what type. personally I would use real Mayo not Miracle Whip (too strong tasting) about a Tbsp or so.

Slices of real (not processed) Swiss cheese
Avocado if you've got it...

Make up your tuna with the celery, onions and mayo
Add pepper to taste

Spread tuna on bread, place cheese slices on top of tuna and slam pieces together like any other sandwich

Put small dab of butter in hot frying pan
Spread melted butter out into size of bread, no need to cover whole pan unless making more than one.
(1/2 tsp is plenty and this method is easier and so much less fat than spreading it on the bread.)

Grill to perfection on both sides

Eat

Mexican variation;
Add either slices of avocado to sandwich or chopped avocado to tuna mix
Also good just sliced up on the side.

May I present:

Martine's TumbleWeed Tuna Melt

These were fabulous! I placed sliced avocado on each sandwich and grilled. I made my regular guacamole recipe and served on the side with tortilla chips. I used regular sliced wheat and provolone, but can see where sourdough bread would take them over the top! I hope the picture does it justice. We loved it! I highly recommend this tasty twist on the tuna melt.

Piper that looks great, I love guacamole and I have my own recipe for that too.
Provolone what a great eye deer.
I have used pretty much any cheese I have in the house for this including cheddar, farmers, havarti, even Gouda, the stronger cheeses I think are a little better.

Here's a hoot, I just pulled your cookies out of the oven

That's so funny about the cookies! Are you gonna post your guacamole recipe?

roflao Let's go for it! Yours will probably be wild and exotic, can't wait to see what you do with it.

P.S. My hubby had to have a second sammy following the first. I'm sure this will become a fav in our house.
