More Casey Anthony documents, evidence released
Reporters are reviewing 926 pages of evidence in the Casey Anthony case.

By Amy L. Edwards, Orlando Sentinel
9:18 a.m. EST, March 23, 2010

About 925 pages of evidence in the state's first-degree murder case against Casey Anthony were released Tuesday morning.

Casey Anthony, 24, is accused of killing her daughter Caylee Marie in the summer of 2008. Caylee's remains were found in December 2008 in woods just blocks away from her family's east Orange County home.

So far, prosecutors have incrementally released more than 12,000 documents as part of the discovery process.

Included in Tuesday's 926-page document dump: transcribed law-enforcement interviews; materials related to Texas EquuSearch and the search organization's volunteers; water-level tests of the areas surrounding Suburban Drive; and previously released police reports.

One volunteer who helped search for Caylee, both with EquuSearch and on his own time, told Orange County detectives the area where Caylee's remains were eventually found was under water when he looked for the toddler.

"I walked up to the edge of the weed line, the grass there just over the ah, edge of the up from the curb and it was deep in water. Or I would've gone back there," according to the transcribed interview with Tony Rovinsky. "And previously I'd had the experience of getting the ATV stuck in the other area. And it just kind of didn't make sense to wade into the water because you couldn't really see anything anyway."

"But I went back there on a number of occasions and I'm telling you it was, it was deep in water," he said. "And so ultimately when the remains were found and I learned where. [sic] I was not shocked. I was not surprised at all."

Orlando Sentinel reporters are reviewing the documents.

Check back for updates.

More Evidence Released In Casey Anthony Case
Young Mother Recently Declared Indigent

POSTED: 10:05 am EDT March 23, 2010
UPDATED: 12:10 pm EDT March 23, 2010

ORLANDO, Fla. --
New evidence was released late Tuesday morning in the case against Casey Anthony.

The nearly 1,000 pages of evidence included results for hair samples, photos from the wooded area where
Caylee Anthony was found, e-mails and interview transcripts.

One e-mail sent to Texas EqquSearch leader Tim Miller was from a volunteer who encouraged investigators to take a closer look at the woods off Suburban Drive in east Orange County near the Anthony family home. (Read Davis' Statement)

Several interview transcripts, including interviews with Texas EquuSearch volunteers, were also included in the documents released.

One transcript between investigators and Miller found the Texas EquuSearch leader recalling being inside the Anthony family home with Casey Anthony, George Anthony and Cindy Anthony. Miller said he pulled out a map and George Anthony asked Casey Anthony to point to a location on the map where she thought volunteers should search for Caylee.

Miller said the question infuriated Cindy Anthony and she asked the EquuSearch volunteers to leave the home.Casey Anthony then went back to her bedroom.

Casey Anthony, 24, is being held in the Orange County Jail on no bond charged with murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. Caylee's remains were found in December 2008 in the same wooded area that the woman emphasized in her e-mail to authorities dated Sept. 4, 2008. Roy Kronk, a meter reader, discovered the toddler's remains, including a skull with duct tape on the mouth, while he was relieving himself.

Anthony maintains that a nanny by the name of Zenaida Gonzalez kidnapped Caylee. The then-2-year-old was not reported missing for one month.

The state has decided to seek the death penalty against Anthony.

Most recently in the case, Anthony's defense team, led by Jose Baez, went before Judge Stan Strickland to declare their client indigent. Strickland ruled in favor of the request. During the same hearing last week, previously sealed jailhouse letters between Anthony and two other inmates were unsealed. Officials said the letters, while they don't include a confession, are relevant to the case.

Casey Anthony Defense Argues Holes In Volunteers’ Stories

Tuesday, March 23, 2010 5:14:20 PM

Reported by Jacqueline Fell and Adam Longo

ORLANDO -- New documents in the Casey Anthony case reveal more about what volunteers discovered when they looked for her daughter, Caylee.

Thousands of volunteers for Texas EquuSearch showed up to look for the 3-year-old.

On Tuesday, nearly 1,000 pages were released by the State Attorney's Office concerning the search.

Many of the interviews were done in December 2009, a year after the remains were found.

Part 1 Documents released March 23, 2010
Part 2 Documents released March 23, 2010

At first Tim Miller, the founder of Texas EquuSearch, was invited by Cindy Anthony to help in the search for her granddaughter.

He said he was then shunned and kicked out of the Anthony home.

The documents reveal attitudes changed when Miller decided to search for Caylee’s body, instead of a living Caylee.

A volunteer searcher told the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Miller told him "he almost had her,” referring to Casey.

"I had talked to Casey and I had a map in her bedroom with her. And I had convinced [her] to put an X on the map of the location of a body. I left the room to give her a chance to think about it [with] her father in there,” Miller said.

Miller then said George Anthony convinced Casey to mark the map. But then Cindy stood up and said "get the hell out of my house. I don't ever want to see you again.

"Miller told police the slow progress of the search, combined with how much money the organization was spending was frustrating.

"When I was at the Anthonys, if she would've just [put] a damn X on the map, this would be over with. It'd be over with. It's not fair to any of us,” Miller told investigators.

Volunteers say when they were in town the area where Caylee's remains were found was underwater.

That backs up an investigation into the water depth of the wooded area.

Dr. James Jawitz was the scientist leading that investigation.

More than $5,000 was paid to Dr. Jawitz for the study.

Jawitz findings show the area was underwater when Texas EquuSearch was searching, but not when meter reader Roy Kronk found the remains in December 2008.

One volunteer said "there was water in that area to the point where I always wore rubber boots, knee high boots, and it would be at least I'd say eight, 10 inches deep in that area where you couldn't walk in there without knowing what you're walking in.

"He said he searched the area four times.

Another volunteer said the area was marshy. "It was definitely flooded. It was ankle deep where I stepped. There is no doubt there was lots of water in there.

"Others said they stopped searching for fear of contamination.

Casey Anthony is accused of killing Caylee. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Anthony.

Will New Documents Help Defense Team?

Casey Anthony’s defense team is sure to capitalize on some conflicting statements made by some of the volunteers.

Mark NeJame, the lawyer for Texas EquuSearch, handed over the list of volunteers to Casey Anthony's defense last year.

It contains the names and phone numbers of volunteers who searched in the general area where Caylee's remains were eventually found.

News 13 first saw the list last month.

The name Joe Jordan has come front and center.

Jordan was a search leader for Texas EquuSearch. He took a group right through the area that would become the crime scene.

He first searched that general area on Sept. 1, 2008. That was three months before Caylee's remains were found.

But two days after the remains were found on Dec. 13, he wrote an e-mail to Orange County Sheriff's Office Sgt. John Allen.

"Although I know that many times an area is searched multiple times before a body is sometimes found, I
believe the remains were moved there after our search," Jordan said.

Jordan's search group included at least one cadaver-sniffing dog.

Casey's defense team identified Jordan in a November court motion as someone who searched the area, yet hadn't been identified by Texas EquuSearch.

Jordan signed an affidavit saying he had in fact searched there.

Eleven months after saying he believed the remains had been moved, he was interviewed by Orange County deputies who asked him if he still believed the body was moved.

"No, I don't think so. I mean, I think we just probably did not search that particular area," Jordan said.

Casey's attorneys filed a motion in November, saying they didn't believe Texas EquuSearch had turned over all the relevant documents, and therefore they believe they're entitled to everything.

NeJame takes strong issue with that position, and plans to fight it in court.

NeJame told News 13 he is trying to get a hearing scheduled within the next few weeks on the Texas EquuSearch motion.

We reached out and received no comment Tuesday from Casey's lawyer, Jose Baez.

Stations focus on Anthony family fight over search for Caylee

posted by halboedeker on March, 23 2010 12:37 PM

George Anthony tried to get daughter Casey Anthony to identify where Caylee might be, but the young mother walked away, according to documents released in the case today. Local TV stations played up that part of the story at noon.

“[Texas] EquuSearch founder Tim Miller told detectives that the Anthony family acted like no other family he’s ever dealt with,” WFTV-Channel 9’s Kathi Belich reported. “The Anthonys did not offer to help in the searches, didn’t even support the effort by standing by at the tents during the searches and Miller says he wasn’t allowed to talk to Casey, who was the last person known person to see Caylee alive.”

Casey Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

WFTV and WKMG-Channel 6 both explored this incident:

Days after Anthony bonded out of jail in 2008, George Anthony asked Casey to identify on a map where searchers needed to start looking, Miller said.

But Cindy Anthony, Casey’s mother, got angry and Casey left, Belich reported.

WKMG’s Tony Pipitone described “the angry exchange” between George and his daughter. “EquuSearch officials in the home say George tried to get her to mark on a map with an X where they should begin their search, but she refused,” Pipitone said. That prompted “George to get angry at her, Casey to storm off into the bedroom and Cindy also to show some anger at the situation.”

Belich described Miller as saying that Casey “acted more like she was going to a cheerleading competition, always smiling, laughing and giggling.”

More than 900 pages of documents in the case were released today.

Pipitone highlighted that Casey Anthony’s description of Zanny the nanny was “eerily similar to an Orange County deputy who showed up at her house the day she was arrested.”

Pipitone also called attention to the news that Ricardo Morales, a former Casey boyfriend, had sold two photos of Caylee to the Globe tabloid. The pictures show the toddler in a shirt with the word “Big Trouble Comes in Little Packages.” The child’s remains apparently were later found with that shirt, Pipitone said.

ORLANDO, Fla. --
EquuSearch leaders say they always knew they were close to finding Caylee's remains, but discovery documents released Tuesday reveal just how close. It was as close as Casey Anthony almost pointing to a map.

EquuSearch leader Tim Miller told detectives it almost happened while he was visiting the Anthonys in their home. He said George Anthony nearly convinced Casey to do it until her mother, Cindy,
intervened.

SHERIFF'S REPORTS: Supplemental #1 |Supplemental #2
BILL SHEAFFER: Analysis Of Released Evidence
VIDEO REPORT:Documents Go 'Behind The Scenes'

The 900 new pages of documents showed the other clues EquuSearch came across while searching for Caylee's remains, including a tip from the man working with the Anthonys' private investigator and volunteers telling detectives they tried to search that critical location but it was always under water.

From what Miller says, he suspected George and Cindy thought Casey knew more, too, judging by their bizarre actions. Miller told detectives that George Anthony's friend, a former law enforcement officer like George, told Miller that Casey held the answer to Caylee's whereabouts, but said Casey wouldn't talk. George's friend used a very unflattering word to describe Casey.

“And his words were, ‘But the f****** b**** won’t talk,’” Miller told investigators during an interview on December 12, 2009 (read transcript).

Miller told detectives, at one point after Casey had bonded out of jail, he felt he was close to making progress with her; he, George and Casey were seated at the table with a map and George pressed her.

“’Casey, where do they need to start searching? Would you make a spot on the map? Would you make an X?’” Miller told investigators George asked Casey.

“Cindy really got angry then,” Miller told the investigators. “Casey got up and went back to her room and I, I looked at George and I think I just kind of threw my hands up and I said, ‘You know, I’m sorry. We really
didn’t come to cause any trouble,’ or something to that effect.

”Miller said attorney Jose Baez didn't want him talking to Casey, even though she was the last person to see Caylee alive, and that Casey never even said Caylee's name, acting as if she were going to a "cheerleading competition," always laughing and giggling.

The documents also show one of the Anthonys' private investigators claimed he was tipping off the EquuSearch volunteers behind the Anthonys' backs. In November 2008, a week before private eyes Jim Hoover and Dominic Casey made a videotape of their clumsy search in the woods where Caylee was
eventually found, Hoover told EquuSearch they should search the same area.

But EquuSearch didn't, because parts of it were always under water when they were there.

WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer says Hoover's alleged tip could have been part of a defense ruse to try to
pin the blame on someone else.

“Hoover and [Dominic] Casey go out to the area that they wanted EquuSearch to search in order to make this video so that the defense can later argue, ‘Well, our investigators went out there and searched and no body,’” Sheaffer said (watch full interview).

The defense claims someone else put the body there after Casey was locked up in October and after the private eyes' so-called search in November. Cindy also admitted to detectives, after Caylee was found, that she had sent someone there to search.

Also among the newly-released documents are transcripts with Joy Wray, a woman who has a troubled past and who claimed she searched the area where Caylee Anthony’s remains were eventually found on December 11 but didn't find anything. Investigators' interviews with her are among the documents released Tuesday (read Wray transcript #1 | #2).

So far, more than 13,300 pages of evidence have been released in the case.

I don't listen to NG very often anymore, but I hate it when she gets LP calling in, and we have to listen to his rants. LP is a sore loser, as he figured he was going to be the big HERO who would find Caylee. He is very jealous and angry that Roy Kronk found her, and has flipped over to Casey's defense side to paint a dark side in the discovery. I read Tim Miller's interview late last night, and was surprised that Hoover wanted Miller to check out the spot where Caylee was later found. It does appear that the Ants knew Caylee was dead, they just tried to get as many people pulled into the story to give them more time and more people to shift the blame on to. The big deal in the Miller interview was Casey's cheerleader behavior and her no mention of Caylee, plus Baez telling him not to question Casey unless he also was there. I believe that Miller's testimony is going to paint a different picture of the Anthony family. He also has documents from searchers who say the area where Caylee was found was underwater when the search team was there.

I haven't watched NG, since last summer when she went all MJ, all the time. (for like 3 months straight) So, I haven't seen LP since right before that. I liked him at first, but I dunno 'bout that anymore, sounds like he has changed.

I would believe Tim Miller over Leonard Padilla any day of the week. After all, NOTHING LP has said has panned out. And I agree that he is jealous he didn't find Caylee instead of Roy Kronk. And I also think he is angry with TM for telling about the "we can make a ton of money" conversation.

I think a jury would find Tim more credible, too. He finds missing people for a living and makes very little himself. LP inserts himself into every high profile case for the notoriety and the money.... not a tough decision on who is more credible there.

OK, this is a New Discovery question, sort of. I followed this from the beginning, when HLN showed the clip of Casey being carted off & Cindy's 911 call. Everything I saw on this case was from watching NG from that point on. I did not start following it on the internet until sometime in January 2009. I missed something along the way. Maybe because I wasn't on the internet, maybe because NG didn't cover it thoroughly, or because it was over the holidays 2008.

I'm confused on who Laura Buchanan is, where she came from, did anyone ever find out if she was on the searches? What's up with Joe Jordan too.

Any comments while I'm still reading doc dump will help.
