Police search for missing mom

April 18, 9:57 PM
Dayton Crime ExaminerDavid Willoughby

Beavercreek, Ohio - Police are calling the disappearance of Tiffany Tehan as suspicious. Tiffany is 31-years old and has been missing since Saturday morning, April 17, 2010. She is from Xenia and was on a shopping trip by herself when she disappeared. She had planned to go to a mommy sale at the Kettering Rec Center. She was last seen at The Greene shopping center in Beavercreek at about 11:00 am on Saturday.

Tiffany's husband, David Tehan reported her missing to the Xenia Police Division at approximately 9:00 pm on Saturday night. Police located her vehicle, with a flat tire at Indian Riffle Park in Kettering on Sunday morning. The doors were locked and the keys were in the car. Although Xenia Police are handling the investigation, they are receiving assistance from numerous police agencies, including Beavercreek and Kettering.

Tiffany has a 1-year old daughter, but the baby was not with her and is safe at home with Mr. Tehan. Several friends have indicated that this is highly unusual for Tiffany and suspect foul play. The Tehan's are members of the Patterson Park Church and Tiffany is a graduate of Cedarville University, a Baptist college in Greene County, Ohio.

Flyers are being distributed in the area where her vehicle was found. According to Amber Rohrer, volunteers will be assembling at Patterson Park Church, 3655 East Patterson Road, Beavercreek, Ohio at 10am on Monday to distribute additional flyers. Prayer groups were also being assembled via social networking sites such as Facebook.

Tiffany is 5'6", 150lbs, Brown Hair, Blue Eyes. She also has a rose tattoo on her left hip.

If you have information on the whereabouts of Tiffany Tehan, please call the Xenia Police at 937-376-7200, or call 9-1-1.

Xenia mother still missing after heading to Kettering ‘mommy sale’

Updated 3:36 PM Monday, April 19, 2010

XENIA — Police continued to search Monday morning for a 31-year-old Cedarville University graduate who disappeared after heading to a ‘mommy sale’ in Kettering.

Tiffany Tehan was last seen shopping at The Greene in Beavercreek around 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17.

Her abandoned Ford Explorer was found at 9 a.m. Sunday at Indian Riffle Park, 2801 E. Stroop Road, Kettering, Xenia police Capt. Scott Anger said.

The mother of a 1-year-old daughter had planned a day of garage sale shopping and was to stop at a consignment sale at the Kettering Recreation Center near the park, he said.

Tehan’s husband reported her missing at about 9 p.m. Saturday.

“There is no reason that anyone could give us that she would not have come home last night,” Anger said. “At this point everyone is concerned that this is out of character for her.”

Tracy Staley of Dayton, a family friend and fellow congregant at Patterson Park Church in Beavercreek, said friends and family members are conducting searches and distributing flyers.

“The main thing is that we just want to get the word out,” Staley said.

Anger said police have searched the park and are conducting interviews in hopes of finding Tehan.

No obvious reason for her disappearance has been discovered, he said, noting that police are looking for clues in her SUV.

Tehan, who works at Nationwide Insurance, has a rose tattoo on her left hip. She has brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information about her disappearance is asked to call Xenia police at (937) 376-7200.

Contact this reporter at (937) 225-2384 or arobinson@DaytonDailyNews.com.

Xenia mother still missing; police getting tips from public

Updated 11:22 AM Tuesday, April 20, 2010

XENIA - Leads so far have come up cold in the disappearance of Tiffany Tehan despite 20-plus tips from the public, an army of local volunteers handing out fliers, traditional and social media alerts and police work in two cities.

The 31-year-old Xenia woman and mother of a 1-year-old daughter has not been seen or heard from since calling her husband after shopping at The Greene in Beavercreek on Saturday morning.

“We’re just looking into all of our evidence and where that might lead us,” Xenia police Capt. Scott Anger said Monday, April 19. “We don’t have, at this particular time, anything that points us in any direction.”

David Tehan expected his wife home by about 2 p.m. Saturday so they could go to a cookout with friends at 3:30 p.m. that day. Instead, repeated phone calls went directly to her voice mail.

“It’s a complete mystery to me,” David Tehan said. “Never in a million years would I expect anything to happen like that. She’s out shopping and now she’s gone. And we don’t know where.”

About 75 friends and members of Patterson Park Church in Beavercreek passed out fliers with a physical description of the 2002 Cedarville University graduate in several locations, including at The Greene and at Indian Riffle Park on East Stroop Road in Kettering, where Tehan’s green Ford Explorer was found at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The vehicle was found locked with the keys inside and with a flat tire. Anger said nothing about the vehicle suggests a struggle.

A Facebook page called Help Find Tiffany grew exponentially up to more than 10,000 members by 9 p.m. Monday night.

“Anything anybody might know or have seen or have heard or even that they think they might have seen or heard, no matter how small, whatever kind of a detail it might be, please contact the police with that,” David Tehan said Monday afternoon. “They are doing a very thorough investigation and they need that information to be able to find Tiffany.”

Xenia police can be reached at (937) 376-7200.

Police said missing mom seen with unidentified man

04/20/2010 Updated 2:22pm

Police are looking for this man described as a person of interest in connection with the disappearance of Tiffany Tehan, a 31-year-old local mother. She was seen with a man on several occasions during the month of March and April at a convenience store in east Dayton.

XENIA — The disappearance of Tiffany Tehan took a sharp turn today, April 20, when Xenia police announced they are looking for a man described as a person of interest in connection with the 31-year-old mother.

Tehan has been seen on several occasions during the month of March and April at the Circle K on Watervliet Avenue in east Dayton where she was seen with an unidentified man, who sports a goatee and long hair and drives a late model red Volkswagon Beetle and sometimes has a German Shepherd dog inside.

Police released a surveillance video and photos of the two for possible identification.

Tiffany’s husband, David, said Xenia police showed him the surveillance video late Monday night, and he said he was shocked by what he saw. He does not know the man or anything about the situation. The male subject is not known to Tiffany’s family and friends.

David Tehan said he has a simple message to his wife seen with the man in the video.

“I don’t care what’s going on there,” he said. “I love you, and if there’s anyway that you know that you can come back, please do.”

Asked for his thoughts upon seeing the photo, Tehan said: “I’d really prefer not to comment on that, actually.”

Tehan did praise the efforts of hundreds of volunteers fanning out across the Kettering and Beavercreek area with fliers regarding his wife’s disappearance.

Tiffany has not been heard from or seen by her husband, friends and family since a Saturday shopping trip to The Greene in Beavercreek and a planned “Mommy Sale” at the Kettering Recreation Center. David Tehan said he last her from his wife about 11 a.m. Saturday.

Her abandoned Ford Explorer was found at 9 a.m. Sunday at Indian Riffle Park, 2801 E. Stroop Road, Kettering. The SUV was found locked with the keys inside and with a flat tire. Police said nothing about the vehicle suggests a struggle.

Tehan said he’s tried calling Tiffany’s cell phone again today, but that it always goes to voice mail. He said the photo gives him hope.

“It makes me hope that there could be more to this,” he said. “That this might not be totally random.”

Xenia police Capt. Scott Anger said they hope the video will help.

“We are releasing video of Tiffany and the unknown male subject to the media for possible identification,” Anger said.

Tiffany is 5 feet 6 inches, and has brown hair and blue eyes. She has also a rose tattoo on her left hip.

Any person who knows the identity of the man in the video should contact the Xenia police at (937) 372-9901.

‘Clients love her.’

Kevin Murphy, owner of Murphy & Associates Agency Inc., 2412 S. Smithville Road, said he hired Tehan as an associate four years ago. “She’s the type of person you hope you never lose. Clients love her,” he said.

There are only four employees, and Murphy is the only male, so whoever she was with is not an employee. Murphy’s business is just around the corner from the Circle K, where Tiffany was seen with the unidentified man.

Though earlier reports described Tiffany as a Nationwide Insurance employee, Murphy said his business is not part of Nationwide, but has a contract to sell Nationwide products. He said he and the other employees have been helping with the searches for Tiffany the last two nights.

Clients and business associates have been asking about Tiffany, Murphy said.

“Everybody is really concerned about this girl,” Murphy said. “She’s a very, very, very well-liked individual. Bad things shouldn’t happen to good people.”

Volunteers still wage search team effort

As news broke of the surveillance video, friends and strangers gathered Tuesday morning at Patterson Park Church in Beavercreek to begin their third day looking for Tiffany.

As a 30-year-old woman pregnant with her first child, Emily Radcliffe said she felt compelled to join the search team.

“It has been heavy on my heart ever since I saw it on Facebook,” said Radcliffe, who graduated a year after Tehan at Cedarville University. “I wanted to put my faith into action and try to do something to help out.”

Radcliffe was one of dozens of volunteers who met at the church. People were given maps, fliers and instructions to spread the word to everyone they could about Tiffany’s disappearance.

A Facebook page, called Help Find Tiffany, has grown exponentially up to more than 18,100 members by 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Liz Wrigglesworth, a staff member at Patterson Park Church, 3655 E. Patterson Road, is helping coordinate the search. She said more than 13,000 fliers were distributed on Monday and thousands more were being printed on today.

Wrigglesworth, who works with Tehan in the children’s ministry, said gathering maps, fliers and people and putting a search into action has been a challenge: “It’s a learn-as-you-go experience, because we’ve never done it before.”

Radcliffe, who came to the church alone, was paired up with Lorraine Lee, a Beavercreek resident who also is not a member of Patterson Park.

Lee saw news reports about Tehan’s disappearance and is not surprised that people with no real connection to the church or family have joined the search.

“I think because it’s local and she’s a young mother,” Lee said. “I’m not employed right now and I just felt that this is a good use of my time.”

A prayer vigil has been scheduled from 5:30 to 6 p.m. today at the church and will be followed by volunteers resuming their search efforts.

UPDATE: Person of interest identified in Tehan disappearance
Missing woman was seen with Tre B. Hutcherson on several occasions at convenience store

A person of interest has been identified in the case of a former Hillsboro woman who disappeared near Kettering over the weekend.

Police are searching for Tre B. Hutcherson, of Dayton, who authorities say has been missing for several days and may be with Tiffany (Tabor) Tehan, 31, of Xenia.

Tehan has been missing since Saturday, when her family told authorities that she never came home from a shopping trip.

According to the Xenia Police Department, Tehan's vacant vehicle was discovered at a skate park near Stroop Road in Kettering Sunday morning.

On Tuesday, the XPD said that Tehan was seen with the man identified as Hutcherson on several occasions during the months of March and April at a convenience store in the area.

Hutcherson, who police said is not known to Tehan's family and friends, is shown in a surveillance video wearing a red polo shirt, with mid-length dark hair and a goatee. A release late Tuesday from the XPD states that Tehan and Hutcherson "could be using his 1999 Volkswagen Beetle, Ohio license plate number EVQ9018.

Homeland Credit 2057789

"They have been seen multiple times in surveillance where they've come into the convenience store. They do appear to be together," Anger said.

"At this point, we're keeping everything open and following this latest lead. These things are out of character for Tiffany ... in the interviews we have conducted with family members and friends, no one knew anything about this man. At this point, we don't know."

A Web site that was up Tuesday morning, www.tiffanytehan.org, includes information about Tehan, a photo of her, a picture from the surveillance video, and says:

"Tiffany (Tabor) Tehan of Xenia, Ohio went shopping on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at a popular outdoor shopping mall, The Greene, in Beavercreek, Ohio," the Web site states. "She called her husband between 10:30 and 11 a.m.

That was the last contact with her. She was believed to have been going to a 'mommy sale' at a Kettering recreation center in Kettering, Ohio in very close proximity to the shopping mall. Her green/blue Ford Explorer was found on Sunday, April 18, 2010 in a park parking lot in close proximity to the recreation center and the shopping mall."

Man associated with Tehan's disappearance identified
By Nick Zeigler - Reporter @ April 20, 2010 9:44 PM
WHIO Local News

DAYTON, Ohio -- Xenia police now have a name for a man associated with the disappearance of Xenia mother Tiffany Tehan.

Captain Scott Anger says a man seen accompanying Tehan several times in the past weeks has now been identified as Tre Hutcherson of Dayton. Hutcherson has also been missing since the time of Tehan's disappearance.

Cops don't know where Hutcherson could be heading, but think Tehan may be with him. Anger said the two are believed to be using Hutcherson's red 1999 Volkswagen Beetle with the license plate EVQ 9018.

Tehan, 31, hasn't been heard from since calling her husband Saturday morning while shopping at the Greene. Tehan told him she planned to shop at several garage sales, but never returned home.

Her Ford Explorer was found Sunday with a flat tire and the keys locked inside at Indian Riffle Park in Kettering.

Hutcherson was identified Tuesday as a person of interest after police found surveillance video showing him with Tehan at several locations since March. Tehan's family told police they had never seen Hutcherson before.

Tehan is 5' 6" with brown hair and blue eyes and has a rose tattoo on her left hip.

Any person with knowledge of Tehan or Hutcherson's location is asked to call the Xenia Police Department at (937) 372-9901.

National news networks report on missing Xenia woman

Updated 8:01 AM Wednesday, April 21, 2010

BEAVERCREEK - National news networks interviewed Xenia police and family members of Tiffany Tehan at Patterson Park Church, 3655 East Patterson Road, on Wednesday morning.

"Good Morning America," "The Today Show," "The Early Show," and MSNBC all provided coverage.

"We just miss Tiffany so much and can't wait to see her," her husband David Tehan told "The Early Show" while the couple's 1-year-old daughter squirmed on his lap and sucked her thumb.

David Tehan also said he would be shocked if his wife left willingly with Tre B. Hutcherson, a man police are calling a person of interest.

"I've never seen this person before. I don't know what the connection is," David Tehan said.

Tiffany Tehan went missing Saturday, April 17, after a solo shopping trip.

Xenia police Capt. Scott Anger said they are monitoring all avenues, including cell phones and credit cards.

"This is not our only lead, but it is the one we are exploring," Anger said.

Chuck Tabor, Tiffany Tehan's father, talked to CNN's Nancy Grace on Tuesday night. During the segment, Grace asked Tabor about any connection Tiffany might have with Hutcherson.

"I did not recognize the man in the picture, and that name is an unfamiliar name," Tabor said.

Pastor Joe Godwin said he doesn't know Tiffany Tehan very well, but she has been a member of the church for several years. She and her husband have both come from solid Christian households, Godwin said. Tiffany Tehan and her husband met at Cedarville University, and David Tehan's husband's parents are missionaries, Godwin said.

The church community was surprised to hear about Hutcherson, according to Godwin.

Hutcherson was identified as a person of interest on Tuesday when police released photos of Tehan and Hutcherson from two weeks ago at a convenience store.

"Nobody knows him", Godwin said referring to Hutcherson. Church leadership learned about Hutcherson through local news media reports. Godwin said right now the mood of the church is of concern for Tiffany Tehan.

Godwin estimates that there have been at least 20,000 flyers distributed telling of Tiffany Tehan's dissappearance. Volunteers have also started to contact hotels along I-75.

"We're just doing everything we can to find her and bring her home safely," Godwin said.

DAYTON — Police are looking for Tre B. Hutcherson, 42, of Dayton, as a person of interest in the disappearance of Xenia mother Tiffany Tehan.

Hutcherson, who has been missing for several days, drives a 1999 red Volkswagen Beetle with an Ohio license plate No. EVQ9018, according to police.

“We believe that he may know the whereabouts of Tiffany or it’s possible that they are together,” Xenia police Capt. Scott Anger said.

Xenia police had no new updates on the whereabouts of Tehan and Hutcherson as of 6:20 a.m. Wednesday,. April 21. There is no indication that there is foul play, or any crimes committed by either Hutcherson or Tehan, Anger said.

The FBI has been called in to help with the investigation.

A $5,000 reward is being offered through tiffanytehan.org for information leading to the safe return of Tiffany Tehan to her family.

A woman who answered the door at Hutcherson’s residence and identified herself as his wife said he took $2,000 from their bank account.

“Obviously they are together,” she said. “(Hutcherson) wouldn’t hurt Tiffany.”

I wonder how much money Tiffany withdrew from her account. It's hard to imagine that she would leave her baby.

This is so weird. Obviously she has a lot of people that love her very much. She looks very happy with that beautiful baby.

Questions: Did she choose to go away with this guy? Did he force her to go? Why would she willingly leave her baby?

I can't imagine just walking away from the baby...

I hope nothing bad has happened to Tiffany. It's hard to believe that she would willingly leave her baby just to run off and have an affair with some guy, but you never know with people.

Police find car linked to missing mom

POLICE: Car was driven since Tehan disappeared

Updated: Wednesday, 21 Apr 2010, 8:17 PM EDT
Sonu Wasu & Kris Sproles

XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) - A viewer tip led police to a Volkswagen bug linked to a missing mother from Xenia.

Police found Tre Hutcherson's car Wednesday afternoon in Harrison Township, but will not disclose the exact location.

They believe Hutcherson had driven the car since Tiffany Tehan was reported missing on Saturday.

Also Wednesday, the FBI joined the nationwide search for Tiffany Tehan.

The local grassroots effort to find Tehan turned into a nationwide manhunt after surveillance pictures were released showing her with Tre Hutcherson of Creighton Avenue in Dayton.

Xenia police said they believed Tehan was with Hutcherson.

Tehan went shopping on Saturday, and never came home.

Her vehicle was found abandoned at Indian Riffle Park on Sunday morning with a flat tire and the keys were still in the ignition.

Family members told 2 News they had never heard of Tre Hutcherson before.

Hutcherson's wife told police he had also been missing for a few days, but she did not file a missing persons report.

His wife said, along with her husband, $2,000 was also missing from their bank account.

2 News stopped by Hutcherson's Creighton Avenue home on Wednesday, but no one was home.

Neighbors said the couple moved to the area about four years ago from Sacramento California, but his association with Tiffany Tehan remained a mystery.

Tehan's parents said seeing pictures of their daughter with Hutcherson brought about mixed feelings.

"The hope is she's alive somewhere, but it's also a lot of questions you know," said Tehan's father, Chuck Tabor.

Police said they would be monitoring the couple's credit cards and phones.

If you have any information that will help police find Tiffany Tehan, call the Xenia police department's tip line at 937-372-990.

A Hillsboro bank is now offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who can help bring Tiffany home.

I can't imagine a mother leaving her child and running off with another man. She may later regret her actions, which may cause her to be denied custody of the child.
