Slow Cooker Chop Suey

Post by Julie on Mon Feb 07, 2011 10:06 am

2 lbs pre cut beef stew meat (I make hubby buy precut beef because of the RA)
1 or 2 onions
1 "bunch" celery (what do they call the whole thing of celery?)
2 cans bean sprouts
1 cup beef broth (I didn't have beef broth so I used 1 cup of the bean sprout juice from the cans and added granulated beef boullion and stirred it up real good.)
Soy Sauce
Cornstarch (stirred into the rest of the bean sprout juice, in a soup bowl)
Rice

Put beef into slow cooker. Dice onion into nice size wedges. Clean and cut celery into about 1 inch wedges. Put onion and celery into slow cooker. Add beef broth (or bean sprout juice & beef boullion), add a couple dashes of soy sauce. Stir everything up.

Cook in slow cooker on high for 4 hours. Add bean sprouts, stir. Cook another 40 minutes.

I don't measure it, but I put probably 1 heaping tablespoon of cornstarch into the reserved bean sprout juice, stir really, really well. Add to slow cooker, stir. Cook another 30 minutes or so, and make your rice during the last 30 minutes.

Thanks Piper, I hope you like it if you try it. My Mom used to make chop suey in the pressure cooker, so this is her recipe, just made in a slow cooker. I found a slow cooker chop suey recipe somewhere on the internet that had basically the same ingredients, but I can't find it now.

Is there such a thing as a nice puppy? Not in this house!! I believe I will take my chances with what is in eva's trunk.

It can't be worse than another dog in my house. Every time Chloe (Dakota's mini weenie dog) comes in the house Pea Dab goes crazy and will not stop barking. So I will take what ever eva is hiding in her trunk. It's probably some of her cooking mishaps that she didn't want to feed to her hubby and kidlet.

That will be o.k. At Discovery Place in Charlotte NC they have a display of mummies from now until sometime in April. Maybe I can wrap them in strips of cloth and add them to their collection. They said they are from all over the world, now we can add 2 from Canada.

Maybe, as long as they are dead. I can't wrap yapping, barking, jumping and running puppies very well. I have one here now I would like to donate to the museum.
